After almost two years, since it was launched, eBay.pl has been still in its stagnation stage.
However the latest field research says that the website of polish subsidiary of the world biggest auction platform is visited by 2 313 510 unique users, which stands for 17,82 per cent of the overall number of internet users (data from November 2006) who give 78 841 697 entries, there is no measurable effects like for example big amount of items for sale or satisfactory sale level. In spite of the fact that on eBay.pl there is no fee for exposition and sale commission, the number of simultaneously biddings (about 230 000) does not go over 9 % of the overall amount of polish online bids. e Bay in this respect, is worse not only comparing to no free of charge belonged to QXL Ricardo – Allegro.pl (close to 80 %) but also charge free platform, which is based on totally polich capital – Swistak.pl (about 9 %).
So far, in the countries where eBay-Inc. could not deal with the competition, it made the leading services dependant. It failed in China, though. The rival – Yahoo, the giant in internet, saw the Chinese market as one of the most important, and it is said that that this market is the most far-reaching. e Bay has enough capital to take over the local websites, what has been lately proved in Sweden but it is doubtful that antimonopoly law will enable e Bay to overtake Allegro.pl, owned by its greatest rival in Europe - QXL. So the conclusion is simple. Or eBay.pl will finish with the typical guerrilla marketing which techniques it uses since entering polish market and will plough into promotion campaign big amount of money or its market share will be shrinking fast. And polish market is worth fight for. Allegro’s turnover increase dramatically – by tens of per cents annually and in previous year it stood for $800ml.
